چکیده
adhesion proteins implicated in integrin activation, including integrin-linked kinase and the filamin-binding protein, migfilin (Figure 1). However, whether these interactions are important for activation or for kindlin-mediated integrin signaling, focal adhesion formation, and cell spreading is unclear and elucidation of the mechanisms of kindlin function will likely require detailed knowledge of its interactions.

The Secret World of Shrimps: Polarisation Vision at Its Best
BACKGROUND Animal vision spans a great range of complexity, with systems evolving to detect variations in light intensity, distribution, colour, and polarisation. Polarisation vision systems studied to date detect one to four channels of linear polarisation, combining them in opponent pairs to provide intensity-independent operation. Circular polarisation vision has never been seen, and is wide...
متن کاملPolarisation Vision of Crustaceans
The photoreceptor design of crustaceans, often containing regular arrays of intrinsically polarisation-sensitive microvilli, has had a profound influence on the visual biology of this subphylum. The land-based arthropods (insects and arachnids) also construct photoreceptors from ordered microvilli; however while in many species polarisation sensitivity results, a general overview of these group...
متن کاملHigh e-vector acuity in the polarisation vision system of the fiddler crab Uca vomeris.
Polarisation vision is used by a variety of species in many important tasks, including navigation and orientation (e.g. desert ant), communication and signalling (e.g. stomatopod crustaceans), and as a possible substitute for colour vision (e.g. cephalopod molluscs). Fiddler crabs are thought to possess the anatomical structures necessary to detect polarised light, and occupy environments rich ...
متن کاملPolarisation-dependent colour vision in Papilio butterflies.
Butterflies of the genus Papilio have polarisation-sensitive photoreceptors in all regions of the eye, and different spectral types of receptor are sensitive to different e-vector orientations. We have studied the consequences of this eye design for colour vision in behavioural tests and find that Papilio spp. see false colours due to the polarisation of light. They discriminate between vertica...
متن کاملNull point of discrimination in crustacean polarisation vision.
The polarisation of light is used by many species of cephalopods and crustaceans to discriminate objects or to communicate. Most visual systems with this ability, such as that of the fiddler crab, include receptors with photopigments that are oriented horizontally and vertically relative to the outside world. Photoreceptors in such an orthogonal array are maximally sensitive to polarised light ...
متن کاملImaging Polarimetry for Industrial Inspection
The use of the polarisation properties of light for the determination of significant aspects of surfaces in an industrial setting is considered. It is concluded that the technique is both general and robust enough to warrant development. An example is presented of the use of the polarisation signature of surfaces to achieve efficient segmentation of metals and dielectrics in the presence both o...
